The wife of former Prime Minister David Cameron, Samantha Cameron, has claimed she has no “disposable income” to afford designer clothes while juggling a mortgage and childcare costs.
This is despite being the daughter of a multi-millionaire aristocrat, and her husband spending £25,000 on a “luxury hut” for his Cotswolds garden.
Mrs. Cameron told an audience during an appearance at the FoundHER Festival for women entrepreneurs on Wednesday:
“I had been working in the luxury/fashion business for a long time and didn’t have disposable income, with childcare and mortgage etc, to buy designer clothes.
Samantha is the elder daughter of Sir Reginald Sheffield, 8th Baronet and a direct descendant of Charles II. She attended the prestigious School of St Helen and St Katharine, which is an independent private school for girls in Abingdon.
Is this signals that even the wealthy are feeling the squeeze, that austerity has failed? It wouldn’t be the first time the Cameron family has come out against austerity, as David Cameron’s own mother, Mary Cameron, aged 81, put her name to a campaign against plans by Conservative-run Oxfordshire County Council to close a number of the centres.
